Right now, women in Afghanistan are facing some of the strictest restrictions on human rights in the world under the rule of the Taliban. This gender apartheid has dramatically changed the daily lives of Afghan women by stripping them of many of their basic human rights.
This heartbreaking reality reflects back to the United States government and its role in the fall of Kabul in 2021. It's important for me to note here that both sides of our political parties played significant roles in the decision to remove troops from Afghanistan and by doing so allowed the Taliban to take complete control of their government. We can debate later on about U.S. military occupation in foreign countries but today I want to share some of the tragic realities taking place for our sisters in Afghanistan.
Women and girls are being forced out of school. Denied continued education past age 12, including all secondary school and university. Afghanistan is the only country in the world to ban women from attending school. Many women are unable to work, this has affect household income as one can imagine. Women are segregated in public places, must adhere to strict dress codes and are not allowed to travel with a male relative. There have been massive negative effects on women's healthcare as women are not allowed to be seen by doctors without a male relative present.
The UN has warned that these policies are close to "erasing women from public life" as women are banned from places like parks, gyms, sporting events, salons, and are denied their ability to be in media forms or political events such as protests.

Sadly this is not new for the women in Afghanistan and their fight for freedom is on-going. All hope is not lost, there is some things we can do. I'll be linking some resources in this blog for those interested to continue their own research. My 'All Women Are Worthy' t-shirt fundraiser campaign is now live and pre-sale is available for the entire month of March. These limited edition shirts were created to raise funds for Women for Women International and all proceeds will be donated to their sector for the women in Afghanistan
Below you'll find the sign up link for pre-sale of these shirts.
